Smoothie King Franchises, Inc. is a privately held, New Orleans-area-based franchise company with more than 850 units worldwide. By creating each smoothie with a purpose, Smoothie King makes it simple and pleasurable for guests to achieve their individual health goals. The franchise also offers a number of healthy retail products, including sports beverages, energy bars, vitamin supplements and more.  Steve Kuhnau founded Smoothie King in 1973 and Smoothie King became the first franchised smoothie bar/health food store in the U.S. in 1989.  Smoothie King currently operates in 33 states, the Caymans, and the Republic of Korea with stores opening soon in Trinidad and Dubai.

The brand has grown consistently for 43 years, translating to 790+-plus locations around the world.   In 2014, Smoothie King partnered with the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans to rebrand their New Orleans, Louisiana based home as the Smoothie King Center.


John Francis

With more than twenty-five years of hands-on experience in the franchise industry, John Francis has served as a franchisee, franchisor, investor and Board Member for organizations such as Sports Clips, Office Pride, Seva Beauty and the International Franchise Association. John's exposure to franchising began when he was just a child in his family’s hair salon system, "The Barbers," which was the 1,000-plus unit organization that franchised the brands Cost Cutters, City Looks and We Care Hair. He later joined the family business, playing a major role in the integration and merger of The Barbers into Regis Corporation in 1999. Today, John shares his perspective and expertise as a consultant, advisor and keynote speaker to help franchise professionals “see what they don’t see” and achieve their highest levels of success.
